Option One - Trading Cards. Option Three - Book Review. (60 points) Write a book review for NBTT.
It should include a thesis ("NBTT is a novel I would (not) recommend
because..."), a brief summary of the events of the novel (but don't give
away the ending), and examples that back up your thesis. Your review should
also explain what you think is/are the major theme(s) of the novel and
use examples throughout. 5+ paragraphs, 600+ words.
Option Four - Whose fault is it? (60 points) Write an essay in
which you explain who you think is at fault for the unfortunate series
of events. Your thesis will be, "I believe that _________ contributed most
to what happened to Phil, Miss Narwin, and everyone else." Your essay should
offer proof from the novel for that thesis. It should be at least five
paragraphs and 600 words long, and use at least three or four examples
to back up your thesis. Please use appropriate quotes from the book.
Option Five - Tell the story. (75 points) Pick a "scene" of the
book, and rewrite it as a traditional narrative using a narrator. You must
decide whether to use a first person narrator (one of the characters in
the book tells the story from his/her point of view) or a third person
narrator (limited or omniscient), like Mark Twain uses in Tom Sawyer,
or Gary Paulsen does in Hatchet.
Your narrative version should cover about 40 pages of the book. Try
to pick a section where there is a lot of action.
The narrative should be at least 800 words, and should include dialogue.
It should not be a summary; it should be a narrator telling the story.
It's up to you to decide whether that narrator is you or one of the characters
in the story.
